Conversation Starters
What is this screen for?
The Conversation Starter tab holds the one opening line your agent greets people with when a new chat session opens on your website. The agent answers with AI from there — the opening line is not a script, and nothing the visitor types has to match it. It is shown once, at the start of a session; a conversation that is already running does not show it again.

Who uses it?
Administrators at your organization.
What do you actually do here?
The tab contains a single text box. Type the sentence you want visitors to see first, and save. That is the whole screen.
If you created your agents through the guided setup wizard, a starter is already filled in for you from the agent template.
Two things worth doing: say who the agent is, and say what it can help with. A visitor who is told the agent handles leave and payroll asks a better first question than one who is only told "How can I help?"
What do you do when it looks wrong or empty?
The box is empty: If the agent has never had an opening line, it cannot be used on your website's Live Chat: a Live Chat rule for it cannot be saved, and it is skipped when a visitor opens the chat. Type a line and save. If you cleared a line that was there before, the chat just opens with no greeting.
You also see a grid of steps below the box: Developer mode is switched on. That grid is Odoo's older step-by-step chatbot builder, which an AI agent does not use. Turn developer mode off to hide it.
You changed it but the old line still appears: The starter is shown once per chat session, when the chat is first opened. A conversation that is already running carries on without showing it again, so your new line appears on the next new chat rather than in an open one. To check your change, close the chat and start a fresh one.
